eToro Review
The best copy trading and the best mobile app we have scored, attached to the worst customer support in our entire dataset. A study in extremes.
Built for social trading, strong on regulation, weak on support
eToro is a large, globally used trading platform built around social and copy trading, allowing users to view and replicate the strategies of other traders. This review covers all ten sectors we score, from regulation and costs to mobile apps and account types, based on publicly available information and our testing framework.

Regulation and safety
eToro is regulated by a number of major authorities depending on the client’s region, including the FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus, license 109/10), ASIC (Australia), and FinCEN/SEC registration in the US for crypto and securities activity. Client funds are segregated, and compensation schemes apply depending on jurisdiction (FSCS up to £85,000 in the UK, ICF up to €20,000 in Cyprus).
eToro is also notable as a publicly listed company (NASDAQ: ETOR), which brings a level of financial transparency and regulatory reporting that privately held brokers are not subject to. As with other multi-jurisdiction brokers, the specific protections available depend on the regulated entity that applies to your account based on your location.
Fees and costs
eToro’s fee structure differs from typical forex brokers. Rather than competing primarily on the tightest possible spreads, forex spreads start from around 1 pip on major pairs, generally wider than ECN-style specialist forex brokers. Real stock and ETF trades are commission-free.
A $5 withdrawal fee applies for USD accounts (GBP and EUR accounts can withdraw for free), and a $10 per month inactivity fee applies after 12 months without logging in. Since eToro accounts default to USD, currency conversion costs are also worth checking if you are depositing or withdrawing in other currencies.
Platforms and tools
The core feature that distinguishes eToro is CopyTrader, which allows users to automatically replicate the trades of other users they choose to follow, along with a social news feed showing community activity. eToro does not offer MT4, MT5, cTrader or TradingView. It is a closed, proprietary ecosystem, which is a meaningful difference from every other broker we cover.
Beyond forex, eToro provides access to a wide range of asset classes including stocks, ETFs, crypto and commodities from the same account, a genuine strength if you want to manage diverse holdings in one place. CopyTrader itself is a social feature rather than algorithmic trading, and eToro’s API access is more limited than what is available at API-focused brokers. The mobile app has a large user base and generally solid ratings.
The eToro Academy provides structured educational content, which independent reviews have noted is comprehensive and well suited to beginners.
Account opening and support
Account opening follows standard verification procedures for a regulated broker, with requirements varying slightly by region given the multiple regulatory entities involved.
Support access is notably more limited for standard accounts than at other brokers we cover. Live chat is restricted to Club members, which requires $5,000 or more in account equity, so it is not available to most retail accounts from day one. There is no direct phone line for UK or US clients. While the platform lists 21 languages, live chat support is English-only, and email support covers around seven languages. Email response times are commonly reported around 48 hours, with some users describing waits of up to two weeks for more complex issues. A 24/7 automated chatbot is available, but this is not the same as human support access.

The eToro ecosystem
eToro produces the most contradictory score card in our dataset, and it is worth understanding why. Copy trading is a perfect 10.0, the best we award, mobile apps 9.5, also the best, and regulation another perfect 10.0 across the FCA, CySEC and ASIC with a NASDAQ listing on top. Then support scores 2.0, the single lowest number anywhere in our data, because live chat is gated behind $5,000 of equity and email waits run to 48 hours or more. Costs and platforms both sit at 6.0, and account types 5.5. A perfect regulatory record guarantees you nothing about whether anyone will answer when something goes wrong. If CopyTrader is the reason you are here and you never need help, it is genuinely best-in-class at that one thing. For anyone who might need support, this is the riskiest broker in our lineup.
We have reviewed brokers independently since 2017. Every score comes from opening and funding a real account, placing trades, contacting support and requesting a withdrawal, not from marketing material. Scores are revised whenever conditions change rather than once a year.
Our overall rating is curated, not averaged, so a serious failure in one sector cannot be offset by an unrelated strength. eToro is the clearest example of why: an average would hide its 2.0 for support behind two perfect tens.
