The verdict

A dependable, beginner-friendly all-rounder

XM Group has operated since 2009 and is one of the more established retail brokers we review, with licenses held through entities regulated by CySEC in Cyprus, ASIC in Australia and the DFSA in Dubai, among others. Its standout feature is accessibility: a $5 minimum deposit, a strong library of education and webinars, and reliable multilingual support make it a natural fit for newer traders.

This review covers all ten sectors we score, from regulation and costs to mobile apps and account types, based on our standard testing framework.

Regulation and safety

XM operates through several regulated entities depending on your region, including Trading Point of Financial Instruments under CySEC in Cyprus, an ASIC-regulated entity in Australia and a DFSA license in Dubai. Many international clients are onboarded under the offshore FSC entity in Belize, which carries lighter protections than the Tier-1 regulators, so it is worth checking which entity you are signing up with during onboarding.

Client funds are held in segregated accounts and XM offers negative balance protection to retail clients, keeping account balances from falling below zero during sharp market moves.

Fees and spreads

XM runs a tiered account structure. The Standard and Micro accounts are commission-free with spreads from around 1.6 pips on EUR/USD, while the Ultra Low account tightens spreads to roughly 0.6 to 0.8 pips. XM’s pricing is competitive for a commission-free model but not the cheapest we review for high-volume active traders, who tend to be better served by raw ECN brokers.

XM does not charge deposit or withdrawal fees on standard methods. An inactivity fee applies after an extended dormant period, so as always it is worth confirming current pricing directly on XM’s site before opening an account.

Account opening and support

Account opening follows standard identity verification, proof of ID and address, and the $5 minimum deposit is among the lowest we review, making it very accessible for beginners wanting to start small. Verification times were within the range we would expect, typically same-day to a couple of business days.

Customer support is available 24/7 via live chat, with email and phone alongside, and broad multilingual coverage that reflects XM’s large international client base. At 9.0 it is one of the two highest support scores in our pool, against an industry average of 6.8.

Our verdict · Solid All-Rounder 2026

XM Group is a dependable, beginner-friendly broker that does most things well without leading in any single category. A $5 minimum deposit, strong education and reliable multilingual support make it especially well suited to newer traders and those wanting to start small. Regulation through CySEC, ASIC and the DFSA anchors the top of its structure, though many international clients are onboarded under the lighter offshore Belize entity. Costs are competitive for a commission-free model but not the cheapest for high-volume active traders, who are better served by raw ECN brokers. For beginners and casual traders who value accessibility, education and a long track record, XM is a solid, well-rounded choice.

How we test

We have reviewed brokers independently since 2017. Every score comes from opening and funding a real account, placing trades, contacting support and requesting a withdrawal, not from marketing material. Scores are revised whenever conditions change rather than once a year.

Our overall rating is curated, not averaged, so a serious failure in one sector cannot be offset by an unrelated strength. See the full scoring report for the methodology and every broker’s data.

Fees, spreads and terms are based on information published by XM Group and our own testing, and can change without notice.
